The Role
Monitoring and Evaluation Director
The Call
Shule Direct is a social enterprise creating digital educational
content for learners in Africa. We leverage technology to bridge the
educational resources divide by providing affordable web and mobile learning
solutions to children and youth. To date, we have built an educational content
repository for Tanzania's Secondary School curriculum accessed via our
Application Programmer's Interface (API). We host an open educational resource
(OER) at www.shuledirect.co.tz
and provide offline access of the same via our customised Learning
Management System (LMS) for Secondary Schools. The OER is under Facebook's
internet.org program of zero-rating content and can therefore be accessed for
free. We are currently piloting a mobile learning platform where we seek to
empower more students in Tanzania with accessible learning and revision
educational and extra-curricular content.

With just two years in operations, Shule Direct has developed
products that are reaching thousands of students across Tanzania. The Board and
the executive director (ED) are looking for a data-driven analytical individual
who can measure and evaluate Shule Direct’s impact and influence our programs
to have evidence-based approaches.
Shule Direct expects the Monitoring and Evaluation Director to
enjoy working in the community, in particular with students and teachers.
Should be quick to adapt and someone who sees the potential in deploying technology
to improve learning outcomes. It is of utmost importance that the individual
can translate data into concrete social programs and be familiar with impact
metrics.

The Responsibilities

To develop, review, update and
disseminate norms and standards for data collection and reporting to ensure
quality
·
To develop program and product
indicators and provide quarterly and annual reports including timely inputs,
outputs and quality data based indicators
·
Design and oversee the collection
of special data (through surveys, qualitative methods, research, sentinel
sites) required to improve delivery of digital education
·
Monitoring of data from the field,
including use in reports and community feedback on performance; take the lead
on general report production
·
Supervise any data
collection/analysis/evaluation activities conducted by partners and/or
consultants; and assist the team with research protocols, data collection, and
data analysis dissemination

To ensure internal compliance of
data collection norms, child protection policies and
·
Prepare summary reports on research
findings, best practices, and other relevant information
Key
qualifications
As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the
core values of Shule Direct and be driven by the mission. The candidate should
demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change.
Solid educational background—Undergraduate degree required in a
social science; a Master’s degree is a plus but could be compensated by years
of experience in a technical position.
Experience in the use of
measurement methods required for monitoring and evaluation education programs,
including demonstrated strong skills in quantitative and qualitative research.
Ability to communicate effectively
in both English and Kiswahili
This role will require extensive travel.
