POSITION DESCRIPTION:

IRC Tanzania coordinates the provision of services across a broad range of sectors in the Kigoma district of Northwestern Tanzania, with the majority of programs currently being implemented in Nyarugusu refugee camp, home to approximately 60,000 Congolese refugees. Since the influx of over 50,000 Burundian asylum seekers in May 2015, IRC has been providing services in various transit locations in Northwestern Tanzania in the reception centers and temporary camps within Nyarugusu. Within these contexts, IRC provides protection and basic assistance in the areas of Child and Youth Protection and Development, Community based rehabilitation for persons with disabilities and special needs, Gender based violence / Women’s protection and empowerment (WPE) and Primary health care at border posts for the Burundian new arrivals. In addition, IRC also does child protection work in the host communities surrounding the camps, in partnership with local government.
Location: Kasulu, Kigoma Region
The position will report to Emergency Team Leader and will be based in Kasulu with regular visits to Nyarugusu camp.
? Work with all Programs in the emergency to develop and disseminate short messages information to asylum seekers and refugees in zone 8, 7 boarder points and the new camp.
? Work with all Program leads to respond to all information needs on operation as requested by UNHCR and other partners on operation status and progress in consultation with Emergency Team Leader.
? Compile daily, weekly and monthly updates on emergency operation and share with all staff in Kasulu field office.
? Lead the generation of relevant information including news on emergency operation within Tanzania and across the border to all staff in consultation with Emergency Team leader.
? Lead the Compilation of daily emergency situation reports (Sitrep) on response operation for internal and external audiences.
? Facilitate sectors to develop radio based skits, drama, spots and coordinate Radio talk shows with programs/sectors on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with Radio Kwizera.
? Work with sectors to develop and disseminate IEC materials on emergency operation including bullets, brochures, leaflets and newsletters to refugees and asylum seekers.
? Develop an information management plan within zone 8, 7 and the new camp
? Set up information corners at reception centres, zone 8 and new camp for asylum seekers access to services including setting up and updating of notice boards.
Qualifications
? A Degree in mass communication, journalism or communication and arts related degree or a diploma with addition experience in the field
? Two (2) years experience in the field of communications and journalism.
? Experience in working in a humanitarian operation is desired.
? Must be having quality writing skills in English and Swahili.
? Understanding of Kiha and Kirundi languages is an added advantage.
? Must be Fluent in speaking English and Swahili.
